Visionary [vish–uh-ner-ee] – A person of unusually keen foresight

For years, the residents of San Antonio (link to city website) drove down Highway 281, passed the old, abandoned Pearl Beer brewery and continued on without giving it a second thought.

But while the public was going about the day to day grind, San Antonio philanthropist and Trinity University graduate, Kit Goldsbury was looking at the old brewery campus and envisioning something that would forever change the landscape of San Antonio and redefine urban living.

Together with his private equity firm, Silver Ventures, Kit got to work meticulously restoring the historic buildings and transforming the campus into The Historic Pearl Brewery; a one-of-a-kind mixed-used development that brought the phrase live/work/play to San Antonio. It didn’t take long for everyone to see Kit’s vision and quickly The Aveda Institute and The Culinary Institute of America opened campuses at The Pearl.

From there the momentum snowballed into the amazing complex it has become today. Great local entrepreneurs like Robby Grubbs of Local Coffee and Doc Watkins of Jazz, TX now call The Pearl home, along with amazing chef-driven restaurants CuredLa GloriaSoutherleigh and many others.

In addition to all the entertainment, The Pearl offers high-end residential rental options, but no options to purchase. Local urban design architect, Jonathan Card, formerly of Lake Flato and now with the highly regarded Austin firm of Clayton & Little was highly involved in the design work for some of The Pearl’s tenants like Cured and Jazz, TX. While working on these projects, Jonathan quickly realized that the area surrounding would soon begin to feel positive effects of Kit’s vision and the residential market would boom.

Being a visionary himself, Jonathan, quickly purchased a property one block from The Pearl to construct his new residence. He knew that being the first one in is always a bit of a gamble, but when a man like Goldsbury lays his bet down, it’s a pretty safe gamble to bet on the same horse.

Over the next year, this amazing home took shape, seamlessly combining urban and historic influences to blend in with The Pearl, but stand out at the same time. It’s the perfect combination of an architectural marvel and a great living arrangement that would be perfect not only for young professionals or empty-

nesters, but also for a family.

The natural light, reclaimed material and modern conveniences will ensure this is one of the properties that defines residential living at The Pearl for years to come. Local developers have already moved to begin the transformation and soon, you won’t be able to find a comparable home for anywhere near this price. Kit Goldsbury saw the vision and laid the groundwork. Jonathan saw the vision. The buyer of this house won’t be the one that “saw the vision” and took the risk. They’ll be the one that realized that others saw the vision and already made it happen. The buyer of this house will be one of the only ones that can look back in 5 years and NOT say “man, I wish I bought some property there way back when.”
